About the Company

Camlin is engaged in manufacturing of stationary products and art materials. Incorporated in 1946, it offers a range of products, such as artist materials, hobby colours, scholastic colours, scholastic stationery products, office products and writing instruments.

Company manufacturing facilities are located at Tarapur, Taloja, Jammu and Vasai. Its branch offices are located at Delhi, Calcutta, Pune and Chennai. The company started its operation by manufacturing ink bottles and currently it is handling more than 2000 products. It has strong network of 50,000 retailers. The company markets all its products under the brand name ‘Camlin’.

Milestone-

1931- Dandekar & Co commenced its operation of manufacturing Horse Brand ink powders and tablets. Later it started production of Camel Ink.

1946- Company was renamed as Camlin.

1947- The company diversified and started producing range of products, such as pain balms, chalks, rubber stamp pads, gums, adhesives and so on.

1958- The company celebrated silver jubilee year in the factory and office at Andheri, which is now the Head Office for all divisions.

1962- Company forayed into manufacturing of art material market with products such as artists' and students' oil and water colours, poster colours, geometry boxes, wax crayons, oil pastels and water colour cakes.

1974- Company started fully integrated factory was in Tarapur (100 kms from Mumbai) for manufacture of wooden pencils.

1982- Company held its very first All India Camel Colour Contest (AICCC) which much later was registered in the Limca Book of World Records for holding the record of the highest entries ever.

1984- Company has set up The Camlin Fine Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals Division at Tarapur to manufacture drug intermediates and antioxidants.

1987- Camlin became a public limited company and was listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange.

1989- Company formed a technical collaboration was established with Pilot Corporation, Japan for manufacture of 0.5 mm high-polymer leads.

1995- Camlin set up manufacturing facility at Taloja  to manufacture synthetic emulsion and adhesives. It entered into marketing collaboration with Winsor and Newton (U.K.) for its artists’ colours.

1997- There was restructuring of the organisation to meet the challenges of the new millennium.

1999- Company introduced glass colours in the hobby range. AICCC was registered in the Limca Book of World Records for receiving highest entries ever.

2002- The company launched of speciality ink group to engage the R&D expertise in ink development and manufacturing.

2003- The company launched of Camlin Exam brand, the premium quality school stationery brand.

2005- The company introduced plastic body marker range.

2009 - Camlin opened its first module pre-school in Mumbai, Camlin Alphakids Ltd, which is 100% subsidiary of the company.

2011 - All India Camel Colour Contest entered the Guinness World Records as the Largest Art Competition with the participation of 48.5 lakhs students from all across the country.

2012 - Kokuyo S & T Ltd. Japan acquired majority stake in Camlin Ltd. and rechristened the company as Kokuyo Camlin Limited. Kokuyo is a Japan based company with more than 100 years old history.
