Music Broadcast was incorporated as ‘Music Broadcast Private Limited’ on November 4, 1999, at Kolkata as a private limited company under the Companies Act, 1956. The Company was converted into a public limited company pursuant to a resolution of their Shareholders at an extraordinary general meeting held on June 15, 2015 and consequently, the name of Company was changed to Music Broadcast Limited and a fresh certificate of incorporation consequent upon conversion to public limited company was issued by the Registrar of Companies, Mumbai (‘RoC’) on June 25, 2015. Music Broadcast operates as a subsidiary of Jagran Prakashan.

Music Broadcast is the first private FM radio broadcaster in India operates under the brand name ‘Radio City’. Radio City has grown from four cities in 2001 to 37 cities as on February 2017. These radio stations include Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Pune, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad etc. which were existing stations. The company acquired 11 additional radio stations under the Phase III policy i.e. the New Radio City Stations. The New Radio City Stations which have been operationalised are located at Kanpur, Ajmer, Kota, Udaipur, Patiala, Jamshedpur, Nasik, Kolhapur and Madurai.  The company is present in 12 out of the top 15 cities in India by population.

The company has a sales alliance with ITM Software & Entertainment Private Ltd (ITM) which operates ‘Suno Lemon 91.9 FM’ (Suno Lemon) in Gwalior and Ananda Offset Private Limited (‘AOPL’) which operates ‘Friends 91.9 FM’ (Friends FM) in Kolkata. They also operate their online web radio on web portal www.planetradiocity.com (‘Planet Radio City’), which was launched in 2010. They operate 40 web radio stations through planetradiocity.com in eight languages. The company also has a 'Planet Radio City' mobile app that plays various stations such as 'Radio City Freedom', 'Radio City Electronica', 'Radio City Metal' and 'Radio City Smaran', in various languages, on mobile and other smart devices.
